  • new 3 coil kit

    Hey Everybody,

for those of you that were at last years conference you may have seen our 3 coil kit prototype. we had a few people order them, and those did get delivered, but I was not happy with the axle arrangement. We had tried having axle extensions machined that simply screwed onto the existing bike wheel axle. we discovered that the system would sometimes work and sometimes, depending upon the bike wheel it just could not be trued.

so we fussed round for a while and came up with a solution. we now have a solid axle, a pair of tapered stop collars and some split collars for setting the stop collars. we had the collars turned so they would slip (just barely, .040 clearance) into the hub itself, see attached pic.

It is a 12 inch long axle machined to precision tolerance to allow using standard 1/2 inch bearings. with the wheel assembled in the kit, no coil mounted, bearing dust covers removed and solvent cleaned, then re-lubed with Triflow, the wheel has a free spin time of 15 minutes 20 seconds. yours may vary

so it seems we have hurdled the final obstacle in all of this and the kits will be available for sale soon. it can support up to 3 coils and circuit boards. the back of the kit can support other smaller generator wheel or a flywheel weight, pulleys or anything else you may want to experiment with.

We will also make the axles available for purchase.

it is really versatile, having the A frame style allows you to hang stuff off it, and there is plenty of room for experimentation.

Can't wait to play with mine! Thanks again Tom for spending so much time figuring out the axle situation.
