Hello All,

I have read thru both SG books (beginner and intermediate) and have built an SG. She's working quite well. This leads me to propose a goal utilizing this technology. Construct an SG capable of continuos 1500rpm to turn a generator head. By rocking B1 and B2 back and forth I will be able to power about half of my home off the grid.

I wanted to toss this out here on the forum and hopefully get some good feedback.

Joe, you need to put a prony brake on your SG to see what the horsepower truly is at a given rpm...... that will tell you how much work you can do. remember the SG is not a prime mover its an energizer. at that rpm you will be pulling a lot of current. a flywheel may help a bit. Tom C

Thanks for the reply, I have realized what this thing is now lol. You are right, it's basically a radiant energy battery charger. I'm working hard to understand how batteries charge/drain and how to know what state they are in. This will give me the knowledge I need to run tests to determine how much energy from B1 is used to recharge B2.

I have JB's sch for his cap dump with comparator trigger and all the parts just came in from Mouser. I'll be building it soon.

My new goal is to run a good portion of my home off a battery bank and keep it charged with the SG or more likely a 6 or ten coiler.

I have a long way to go but do you think that's the right direction?

Also, a few questions assuming I had a good size battery bank to charge with the energizer.

1. Would I be charging it with current pulses or direct from the output diodes?

2. If so would it still be 1 amp pulses or would I want to pulse a higher current?

3. Perhaps it would be beneficial to have a cap dump circuit pulsing 1 amp to each battery. Or even have 2 groups 4 batteries. One online and the other offline charging. Each battery would have its own cap dump circuit.
