  • rods in coil coming out

I am using R60 1/16 welding rods for the core of the coil but sometimes they seem to rise from the coil because of the magnets.

I was wondering if you can put a little super glue to keep them from coming out.

I packed them tightly but I want to make sure they are secure.

if not, what is a better idea to keep them more secure than just packing them in tightly?

Super glue worked great for on my cores.

It is important that the welding rods in the core be secure. Super Glue (also called Krazy Glue, Gorilla Glue, whatever, the formula is cyanoacrylate) is what to use. Epoxy would probably work OK also.

If a welding rod protrudes, it can cut the strapping tape that secures the magnets in case of a magnet coming lose from the wheel. Then if it continues to protrude, it will chip a passing magnet and then detatch the magnet from the wheel. The flying magnet partly still attached to the wheel generally cuts some of the wire on the spool, then the whole coil is ruined. If you're lucky you will hear the bump-bump-bump and turn it off in time. If you're unlucky, your whole rotor and coil will be entirely ruined into a shred of torn wires. Several of us have seen this and it is not pretty!

Anyway, please glue your welding rods into a solid core!

(Also, if they are just a little bit loose, the movement detracts from the machine's efficiency; it is that much magnetic force that is being lost and not pushing the wheel.)

I found that varnish worked well to keep the rods in place, I just taped up one end and poured the varnish in and left it for two days to dry.

I used shellac, about a table spoon in a small container then drop the wires in coating them. Then use rubber cloves to put them in the core while there still wet. A little messy but works 100 % good luck.
