  • side by side magnets - any field change ?

hi, im after info with magnet layouts, and the change in field, if any.

i know its ok to stack magnets ontop of each other, but is it ok to run them side by side, without messing up the magnetic fields projected out ?

like this i mean, stuck together at the sides :

after a bit of messing about, i figured out that you couldnt stick the magnets together, with the same faces out.
magnet to magnet only stick on opposing poles.

they'll only go together if theres a piece of steel between the 2.
with the steel in place, both magnets face either north or south.

i checked the fields with a compass, but cant really tell whats happening in the very centre, where their joined with the steel.
the field seems to either weaken significantly, or is a very low opposing pole. unsure about that tho.

might be able to tell if i had some of that green sheet, for field viewing ?

    anyone know more ?

2 poles pushed together make a scalar pole, much sharp and long magnetic field, of course they won't stick one to the other, you have to force them together with tape or other means.
