  • Pickup / generator coil question

    I'm thinking of adding a pickup or generator coil to my setup like in the original SG to either run some LED's or charge a battery. Any suggestions, tips, guidance for this?

    One detail I would like to know right off....is it better to have a dedicated "pickup coil" or to use a winding on a multifilar coil as a pickup? I have three trifilar's and was thinking of using one winding on each for a pickup.

    Thanks,
    Rickets.

    Hi Bzar, I do not think it matters. You can add a coil or use an extra coil lead. Either way the magnetic configuration will produce alternating current. One thing you might want to try is to check the AC voltage output on the trigger leads when the SG is running......pretty amazing how much voltage is produced. Also the faster the wheel turns the higher the output.......and it can get real serious at the fast rpm speeds. I'll be writing an article about this shortly.

      @Forrest,Bzar

      Hello ! exactly my actual experiment: my experience is, to use a separate coil. if you use one of the multifilar coil as generator and try conect a load,you
      you will never get a HV-spike from the rest of the windings. Forrest, if you measure the trigger coil and see a high voltage, keep in mind that this coil
      produces the same energy from the collapsing magnetic field. as soon as you disconnect the power of your SG you will miss the high voltage.

      have fun

        Hi Dieter,
        This is good info! Looks like we have all been in the same boat so to speak. Thanks for the heads up!
