So if I decide to start over with this battery...is it ok or even advisable to dump the mix out, and re-add just the alum mix? I seemed to have a decent curve at first...but since I capped it off with the extra water it's not so great anymore.

    Hey John-

Yes, I shook up the battery. I had ran the battery through I think 5 charge/discharge cycles before I checked the PH also.

My tester probe won't fit into the battery lid holes, so I had to extract some fluid out with a syringe. I am not extracting from deep in the cell though...just from the top.

P.S. I'll do a quick video of my meter

    Branch and all,

Distilled water in theory has a PH of 7 (neutral) but it has no buffer(PPM) in it. As you discovered, when you open the bottle, CO2 will change it's PH. Put your finger in it and it's PH will become your skin's PH. Look at it and it's PH will become your eyes PH! (well... you get the point). So checking the PH of distilled water is meaningless.
2 points calibration (4 and 7) like you're doing is perfect but you shouldn't use the calibration solution caps to do that as you will contaminate your solutions over time when putting the caps back on the bottles! Use glass. Tequila shots glasses or something similar and throw away the solution when done.

Hey guys, I've been doing more testing with my alum napa car battery. I have it being charged by Lasersaber's Joule Ringer 3.0 circuit and my GoalZero Nomad7 12v panel. Here's a video of it charging up. Seems the circuit definitely helps the battery charge faster.

Interesting. Can John K or John B comment on this? I'm throwing my hands up in exasperation here.

I know John K's alum mixture was pretty strong, and then he added acid to that after. So according to these readings the PH should be pretty low. John K...what PH meter did you use? Strips? John B what are you using?

Is there some chemical process that occurs that will raise the PH after the alum forms a crystal? Are you guys testing the PH while charged or discharged?

I realize I'm drawing a lot of attention to this...but this is a real issue that we all have different readings.
