  • Ok right on. Were you continually mixing it, or did you blend and then stop? Just curious for when I have a go at it.

I seem to remember John had a mixer he made from a windshield wiper motor he got from the scrapyard...and he was using that to continually mix something. Not sure if that was the same mixture or not...

    Sorry,

    • Tom,
After mixing the Alum first, did you put all the chemicals in the blender at one time or did you add them in one at a time?
I took John B response to Branch, to mean you had to watch the Hydrate for the gelling????

        • I am putting together a list of everything I need to replicate John's crystal battery at the beginning of this thread. I found these copper Buddhist offering bowls pretty cheap. $20 for 7 of them. That look like what I need?

          • Hi Branch,
The description didn't say but assuming those are pure copper and not copper coated they would work fine. Any copper can be used as long as it is not just a coating over tin.

            • I have sent the seller an email asking if it's solid copper. I will post here with response. As far as the magnesium goes, would this work: http://amzn.com/B0010O748Q?

Then I would just solder the wire directly to that magnesium block?

              • Branch,

no you want to drill a hole and tap it, use a rign terminal and bolt screw it in. use a stainless bolt.

                • Ok I created a WishList on Amazon because I love Amazon and use it all the time. I added everything that I think I need to assemble this battery and circuit.

Does someone mind double checking my selections?

                    • Branch,
Those fire starters will work, my first few cells were made with exactly that. Later I played around with other things and got some Electrodes, those were good but they have a steel core and it will corrode.

This is what I like to use now after much tinkering. It is pure magnesium .

Again it is only a suggestion as any magnesium will work but I prefer to keep other elements out.

                        • That should work very well. Probably better for your Bowl design, flatter and wider.

I make my cells with copper pipe so the shape of those rods is easier to work with in my case.

                          BTW:
I don't know if you have browsed my thread about these cells but you may want to take a look. I go over some things I discovered about the heating process for the copper that I did not have figured out when I first started making these.

Sorry I cannot help with that one. I built the cells but did not make an oscillator for them, not yet anyway. I just put mine in series to get the voltage I want to run an LED or whatever. Mine put out a good 1.5 volts each so two in series drives LED's decently.
